Imaret's History Nuggets
The Külliye/İmaret was first listed as a protected historical monument by the Greek Government on March 4, 1954. The local Ephoreia (Agency) of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Antiquities, together with the Greek Ministry of Culture and the Egyptian Embassy in Athens, drew up plans for an extensive restoration program, but these plans were never realized. In 1984 a series of inter-governmental agreements between Greece and Egypt were signed which decried that the Külliye was to remain the property of the Egyptian government and that it would be restored as a site for cultural activities. These agreements were likewise never implemented.
